Psychomotor disturbances are central in both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. In this work, we investigated their potential neural correlates, by using resting-state fMRI. The results of this study showed distinct alterations of subcortical-cortical coupling in the sensorimotor system between patients suffering from psychomotor inhibition and patients suffering from psychomotor excitation, independently from the diagnostic categories of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. This work may help to better clarify the neurobiology of psychiatric disorders.
