Brain Integrity in Creativity Incubation
Nowadays, the creativity industry becomes the emergent new industry to create extra added-value and to enhance people’s life quality, and its economic influence is rising annually. However, the creativity workers inherit the long working hours and sleep quality reduction from industrial economy; however, recent neuroscience studies suggest that this traditional life style could be wrong for creativity industry. The foundation of the creativity industry originates from the open-ended creative thinking, and the inspirations toward the specific problem in real life. Empirical research has shown that a period of incubation indeed helps creative thinking. Many anecdotal accounts of creativity have put emphasis on incubation. The basic scenario is a familiar one: we are working on a problem, we can’t solve the task, we leave it aside for a period of time – the incubation period – and when we return attention to the original task we have some new ideas that helps us to solve the problem. This is an interesting and novel research topic towards individual’s mental automatic process on creativity. However, creativity incubation by far has been investigated only in behavioral studies, which has yet been explored in terms of underlying mental process in the brain. Therefore, in this proposal, our main purpose is to reveal the neurocognitive mechanisms under the creativity incubation.
