Last month, Taipei Medical University partnered with Hiroshima University to host the Emerging Technologies and Society: Bridging Ethics, Law, Security and Resilience joint symposium. GIMBC Director Tzuyu Hsu was a moderator for the event, while Professor Niall W. Duncan delivered a talk on ‘Machine Consciousness in the Context of Human Consciousness’.

Speakers were selected for their expertise on recent technological breakthroughs like artificial intelligence, monitoring technology, organoids, reproductive medicine, gene editing, and more. This symposium provided a platform to discuss how these advancements are reshaping our daily lives through the lenses of sociology, anthropology, ethics, and law. Together, the international, multidisciplinary audience explored pressing questions around ethical concerns, legal frameworks, and societal resilience in the face of these breakthroughs, offering valuable insights for researchers and students alike.
