GIMBC congratulates Master’s first-year students, Ben Nguyen and Xinyue Nam, for winning 1st Runner Up in the campus-wide Hult Prize award ceremony last Wednesday. Nam and Nguyen’s project, “UV Seal,” proposes a stitch and needle-free suture alternative utilizing novel biopolymers. This bandaid-like solution offers enhanced wound healing, increased resistance to torsional strain which could cause sutures to prematurely pull out, and improved at-home care management compared to traditional wound dressings. The project aims to address healthcare disparities in communities with limited access to medical resources, including Taiwan’s homeless and indigenous populations, as well as individuals who choose to delay or forgo medical treatment. Their innovative project earned them a prize of 5000 NTD.
The Hult Prize is a prestigious global competition that challenges university students to develop social entrepreneurial ventures addressing critical global issues aligned with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participants are required to present viable for-profit business proposals. The team’s successful pitch has earned them the opportunity to represent TMU at the upcoming Taiwan-wide Hult Prize competition. Congrats again to Ben and Xinyue for their dedication to addressing global health challenges.
