Topic: Advances in Alzheimer’s Disease: Diagnostic Biomarkers, Glymphatic System Insights and Emerging Treatment Strategies

Abstract:

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) continues to pose a significant global health challenge as one of the leading causes of cognitive decline in older adults. This presentation explores recent advances in the diagnostic, mechanistic, and therapeutic understanding of AD, with a focus on three key areas: diagnostic biomarkers, the glymphatic system, and emerging treatment strategies. The role of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and blood-based biomarkers, such as amyloid-beta (Aβ), tau, and neurofilament light (NfL), is critically examined in the context of early diagnosis and disease monitoring. In addition, new insights into the glymphatic system, a waste clearance pathway for the brain, highlight its potential involvement in AD pathology, offering novel perspectives on disease progression and prevention.

Furthermore, this presentation reviews promising emerging therapeutic strategies, including disease-modifying therapies targeting Aβ and tau, alongside innovative approaches addressing neuroinflammation and glymphatic system function. Clinical trial results, challenges in treatment efficacy, and future directions in AD management are discussed to provide a comprehensive view of how recent discoveries are shaping the future of Alzheimer’s care. This session aims to foster a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between biomarkers, brain clearance mechanisms, and therapeutic interventions in Alzheimer’s disease.
